CN says rail traffic controllers in Canada ratify new collective agreement


CN announced that members of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference-Rail Canada Traffic Controllers (TCRC-RCTC) have ratified a new collective agreement covering approximately 210 train dispatchers in Canada.

The three-year contract, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2012, provides wage increases along with standard benefit improvements to the TCRC-RCTC members at CN.

Alaska Airlines will launch service between Seattle and San Antonio, Texas, starting Sept. 17. The dominant carrier along the West Coast, Alaska Airlines now serves 16 destinations east of the Rocky Mountains.

"San Antonio is the second-largest city in the state of Texas and has a variety of great attractions—from the River Walk to The Alamo," said Joe Sprague, Alaska Airlines' vice president of marketing. IMO incorporates recommendations from cruise industry operational safety review in meeting outputs

CLIA announced that the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Maritime Safety Committee incorporated a number of recommendations from the ongoing Cruise Industry Operational Safety Review in its meetings in London, being held May 16 to 25.  The committee focused extensive attention on passenger ship safety and considered a number of recommendations developed by the Review, launched on behalf of the global cruise industry in January, along with other safety recommendations submitted by IMO member governments.

Port of Rotterdam to open new centre for project cargo

Monday, May 28, 2012 - The Port of Rotterdam Authority and the Broekman Group intend renovating and redesigning the eastern section of the RDM site in the Waalhaven. This will involve the drastic renewal and considerable expansion of the current ‘Heavy Lift Centre’ for the storage and handling of heavy and bulky freight from the energy and offshore industry sector, project cargo. The Port Authority is investing more than €15 million in the project. The work on the centre for heavy cargo has already started with the demolition of some dilapidated sheds, and will continue until the third quarter of 2014.

DOT Fines Virgin America for Incomplete Disability Complaint Reports

SWISS to adjust its fares in Europe and simplify its sports equipment carriage rates


SWISS is to modify its fares within Europe. The increases, which will enter into effect on 1 June, apply to all flights from Switzerland in Economy and Business Class. The airline is also simplifying its sports equipment carriage rates from the same date.

SWISS is increasing its fares for travel within Europe from the beginning of June. Economy Class fares will rise by between CHF 10 and CHF 20, while Business Class fares will be raised by CHF 30.

Events industry breaks its own record: 338 million participants in 2011

Tuesday, May 22, 2012 - The German event industry has concluded the year 2011 with record results: 2.72 million events took place and were visited by 338 million participants throughout Germany. Compared to 2010, which had already been a very positive year, the number of visitors grew by another 4.5 percent. The number of events increased by 1.2 percent, the proportion of foreign participants remained stable at 5.9 percent (increase of 0.1 percent).

Alaska Airlines Offers Customers Self Bag-Tagging Option at Sea-Tac Airport


Alaska Airlines is debuting self-bag tagging for customers traveling out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The process allows customers to print and attach their own luggage tags from a self-service kiosk in the airport lobby and then, in one step, show their identification and drop their bag off with an airline representative for security screening and loading onto an aircraft. Following a successful trial at Redmond/Bend Airport in Oregon last year, the airline intends to offer customers self-service bag-tagging options at more airports across its route system this summer.

Boeing Delivers 3rd Peace Eye AEW&C Aircraft to Republic of Korea Air Force


Boeing delivered the third Peace Eye 737 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft to the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) on May 16.

The aircraft was delivered ahead of schedule to ROKAF Base Gimhae, the main operating base for the Peace Eye fleet. Peace Eye No. 3 is the second aircraft in the fleet to be modified into an AEW&C configuration by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) at its facility in Sacheon.

In Saint-Nazaire, France, MSC Divina was officially delivered to MSC Cruises at the STX France shipyard. During the traditional flag ceremony, the shipyard’s pennant and the French flag were lowered, accompanied by the French national anthem, before Laurent Castaing, General Manager of STX France, formally handed the ship over to MSC Cruises’ owner Gianluigi Aponte. Mr Aponte then gave command of the ship to Captain Giuliano Bossi, and the flags of Italy and MSC Cruises were raised to the sound of the Italian national anthem.
